Meet the Team That Develops the Leading Back-Office Solutions for QSR

Today we are meeting with some of the team members behind MacromatiX, Fourth’s global solution for Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), most of whom are based in our Sofia, Bulgaria office.

The team is growing, and we thought this is a great opportunity to sit and talk with them about their work at Fourth and what it takes to further develop and enhance a product with 20 successful years of history, as well as what it takes to collaborate with peers in the USA, Australia, Republic of South Africa and Bulgaria.

Georgi Stamatov, the MacromatiX Software Engineering Manager, explains more about the product and the team behind it:

“The system is developed on Microsoft platforms using modular component-based architecture. The solution is easily scalable, customized enhancements could be developed quickly and could support thousands of sites. Among the customers using it are McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell, Papa Johns, Hard Rock Café, Jimmy John’s, Planet Hollywood, and many more.

We are currently building a scrum team in Sofia that is going to work alongside the existing engineering teams in order to further develop and enhance the solution. This is a great opportunity for software engineers who want to join a team of experienced and mature professionals, I would even say some of the best talents I have ever worked with in my career.”

Meet the Team That Develops the Leading Back-Office Solution for QSR

John Adams is the Product Owner of the team. He has been at Fourth for over ten years now and is responsible for developing the product strategy and working closely with the engineering teams.

How is Fourth’s MacromatiX’s solution helping the leading quick service businesses in the world?

As technology and trends in the restaurant industry have evolved over the past 20+ years since MacromatiX was introduced, our primary goal has largely remained the same – to empower restaurant operators with innovative tools that allow them to spend less time in the back office and more time doing what they do best, engaging with their teams and their guests.

— John Adams (Product Owner)

Chad Marais is a long-lasting partner of Fourth, supporting the solution and leading one of the engineering teams in South Africa. The Cape Town office (under the banner of The Gemini Solution) started working on the Macromatix fold in 2010 during a phase of massive growth and product expansion. Over the years, the team has worked alongside counterpart teams in the US and Singapore, all while growing the team and its IP to cover all functional areas of MacromatiX, including vendor integrations, portals, offline systems, store-level Biometrics, and all areas of customer and system support.

Favourite part of working with Fourth:

My favourite part of working in the Fourth family has been the exposure we’ve had to a myriad of highly complex systems within a collaborative, global ecosystem. The high caliber of our clients, colleagues and processes have been invaluable in maturing as a development company and as individuals within our teams. Great exposure from all sides and amazing support across the globe.

— Chad Marais (Software Engineering Manager)

The team in Sofia has six founding members. We approached and asked them about their motivation to join the team, their roles as well as the challenges and opportunities they meet daily.

Favourite part of working with Fourth:

One of my favourite aspects of the SEM role is building a successful team. It’s challenging to find the right people in terms of personality and professional skills and it’s even more difficult to build a successful and highly productive team. My goal is to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect to enable the people to communicate, cooperate and be innovative.

— Georgi Stamatov (Software Engineering Manager)

Favorite part of working with Fourth:

There are two aspects that are my favorite part of my role:

  1. Working with the people and supporting them in their personal and team growth, in mastering their mindset and turning from individual experts to real team players
  2. Contributing to the Company’s growth and continuous improvement by taking part in different technology-wide initiatives

— Vanya Dimitrova (Scrum Master)

Favorite part of working with Fourth:

Best part of my job is the variety – I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects, developing different parts of our systems, alongside very capable professionals. We are able to introduce new technologies and features in products with 10+ years of successful history. Also I am able to see how the products that we develop save time and resources of our clients – we serve those who serve others and in this way we allow them to focus on the essence of their business – their own customers.

— Gospodin Gochev (Principal Software Developer)

Favorite part of working with Fourth:

It is more than one, Fourth provides a family environment where everybody is there for each other and there is continuous collaboration. Another aspect is the diversity of the work, which gives various opportunities to learn and grow – we use new approaches and techniques especially in the automation and testing domains; there is a focus on different improvements and recognition when the goal is achieved.

— Ivo Sapoundzhiev (Principal QA)

Favorite part of working with Fourth:

As a newly hired employee, what motivated me to join and still keeps me excited is:

  • Working on one of the biggest and most complex products within Fourth’s portfolio.
  • Learning modern tech and trends.
  • Being part of a team that will develop an automation framework
  • Very friendly international team

— Plamen Velikov (Senior QA)

Favorite part of working with Fourth:

Over the course of my career, I have played various roles in a broad spectrum of companies, and it seems that every career move I have taken so far has been a preparation for my current position.

MacromatiX is a complex system, and it has been serving restaurant operators well for more than 20 years. Keeping it up to date is a big challenge, as it requires skills, knowledge, ability to collaborate, and deliver results on time every time. Definitely, the right job for me.

— Nikola Nikolov (Senior Software Developer)

We continued our conversation with Mr. Stamatov:

What values do you try to instill in the team? What is the environment you create?

There are 3 values that are part of our core company values as well as my personal ones and I try to cascade them to the team:

The environment in the company and the team is friendly based on open and honest communication, team collaboration and mutual respect. We are also encouraging a diverse and inclusive culture and experience – the product is global not only in terms of customer base but also because of the teams that are spread across the globe.

What is the profile of the people that you are looking to join the team? We are looking for .Net developers, who have experience with C#, VB .Net (preferably) and advanced SQL skills. In terms of personality and soft skills, we are looking for proactive people who have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and are team-oriented

How Fourth’s MacromatiX’s solution helps the leading quick service businesses in the world: (by John Adams) Our Inventory solution provides restaurants with the ability to perform inventory counts efficiently and accurately. Along with perpetual inventory on-hand tracking, projected ordering, prep and production planning, transfer, and waste functionality; our customers can cost-effectively maintain the quality and availability of the stock they need to provide the best possible experience for their guests.

Our Cash and Financials solution allows managers to track the movement of cash within the store — from the register and the safe, all the way to the bank, focusing on accountability and reducing cash loss due to theft or human error.

In addition to the core modules within MacromatiX, we also offer an operational workflow to enforce the completion of key daily and weekly tasks consistently across the customer’s organization and reporting tools to allow users across the enterprise to gain insight into the performance of their restaurants and identify opportunities to improve operations or reduce costs.

With MacromatiX joining the Fourth family of products, we are able to extend our offering to quick service restaurants with additional tools; including Analytics, Recipe & Nutritional Information Management, and Labor Management solutions in the US and internationally. The robust suite of products we offer is easily customizable to meet the unique needs of our customers, from small chains to large global brands. We view each customer engagement as a partnership. From initial discovery, to roll-out, and beyond; we seek to listen, understand, and support the objectives of our customers to provide world-class service to their guests and grow their business.

Investment in new R&D development of MacromatiX by Fourth has enabled us to cultivate a roadmap of features for the next 2–3 years that we believe will enhance our offering even further. With a focus on mobility, operational efficiency, and technological innovation. Continuous collaboration across the globe, with internal teams and customers alike, allows us to effectively adapt to changes in the industry and refine our solutions to address the latest challenges and opportunities our customers face.
